Well Jared was doing Walker. So maybe Jensen just figured he was busy. Although they are friends and live near each other. So I guess I can see his hurt feelings. At any rate supernatural was played out. They defeated god. Anything that Mary and John do will seem small potatoes. There will have to be a lot of rewriting also. Because john was not a hunter until after Mary died. Show wont last long I think....
shareWhen I found out about this spin off prequel, I thought "cool" but that soon scattered, because it kind of sounds boring and I really don't know what they could do. In time travel episodes, we saw all we could with the supernatural and learning about the "origins" of Mary's deal and when Anna tried to kill Mary. If they are planning to do a prequel that follows Mary & John sounds kind not "Supernatural" - in the article it mentions nothing about hunting, or the Supernatural elements, it talks about Mary & John's "epic" love story. It sounds like CW to me, but it doesn't sound like "Supernatural" however, that's not points of spin offs, imo. I guess that would be OK, but I would assume fans would want more other than a love story. I like the idea of "Dean" narrating, as if maybe he's reading John's journal(?) but I don't know. They also didn't waste anytime, I mean it hasn't even been a full year since Supernatural officially ended.
Another poster said the same thing I thought, John wasn't a hunter until after Mary was killed, and Mary quit hunting after having Dean...somewhat. So, I wouldn't want them to retcon anything.
Well, it is still, like brand new news, so it's still in early development, but I personally believe that spinoffs shouldn't rely on the original show..meaning, dont expect Sam & Dean to pop up every other week, Cas shouldn't be involved, there should be nothing supernatural because that's not the premise of this spinoff.
As for Jared, perhaps it's how he found out about it and was hurt by the news, but honestly... why? I find it VERY ODD for Jensen not to mention this to Jared, maybe news broke early. Also, I don't think Jared should take offense or be "gutted" because he's doing Walker and if he took any interest in being a part of spinoff, you'd think he and Jensen would've discussed it. I really don't know. Maybe it runs deeper. Wasn't it Jared who didn't want to quit Supernatural and now Jensen and his wife are creating a spinoff..

In the first place, Jensen went to Eric about ending Supernatural and that it was hard to get Jared on board. Now he's wanting to do a prequel? Why the change of charge.
A friend mentioned to me today that maybe Jensen's hands are tied by the production company he can't say anything. But then I thought it's his own company that are making the production, can he still not say anything to Jared?
I also thought earlier, maybe they might be using young Mary and John. Amy Gumnick and Matt Cohen I think. This would make sense. I think JDM is busy and may not be available. I like the concept and think it has some juice in it. I don't buy into it that it will be a love story, as fans won't be invested in watching mushy stuff they want action, gore and drama. Yes, Jensen narrating is cool, he has a good, strong narrating voice, and he's done it before. Which is maybe what gave him that concept originally.
I had a final idea, that currently they are all dead and in heave. I wonder if the story will come full circle and they meet up and all hunt together. It could tie in and make sense later on.
After watching a video I was thinking of this prequel again last night.
There's a few ways they could probably do this with keeping the "supernatural element" included.
If we follow a young Mary meeting John and dating, she'd still be a hunter at this point, right? We would also have to include her parents, but the trouble with that is, the actor who plays her father is on Walker, so unless they recast, get him to do both - I'm not sure what they would do there. Anyways, I could see the first season or so be all about Mary hunting and her relationship with John. But, by season 2 things would have to change, we cant have over 4 or 5 seasons of them just dating, while she hunts and keeps it a secret. I feel it could get boring and currently, I'm not sure it can hold up well.
I also thought the show would meet up with Supernatural in some way down the road, like having the last season of John hunting with Dean, but they'd have to use some excellent cgi to do that though. We would have to see Mary & John's lives play out with Dean being born and eventually Sam. But there cant be any hunting, unless they retcon it.
I'll be honest, I don't think it's a good idea of a prequel. But, I won't really know what I think until more information is released and their is promo for it...it's still early and it's easy to have the mind wander and think what can happen, what cannot happen. Like there's no way, Castiel can appear unless he's from the future.
My thought is that after spending so much time with Jared, Danneel wanted some time with her husband so she got him to do it as an "us" project :-P

You know...you may not be entirely wrong...(but I'd say both wives seem busy including themselves in their husbands livelihood....maybe they've felt left out )
One thing to keep in mind is that we don't know the whole story. Jensen had spoken a few months ago about a project he was working on that he didn't want to get specific about because it wasn't certain and he didn't want to jinx it. This was on a panel with Jared..
What could have happened was word came down they were giving it a shot and released the news to Deadline in which Jensen tweets the link without thinking.
I don't know...that's s just one possibility.
Jensen has been in Canada for months and Jared has buried himself in Walker. .......Wish I liked that show...
But maybe they've missed connecting lately..Such busy busy guys.
I don't know how or if this idea can work but I'll give it a shot.
Honestly, from what I've learned over the years... Jared & Jensen are super close off screen. So, this was genuinely surprising.
I get that Jared might be busy with his new show but revisiting The Show you've been doing together for 15 years, that's usually the kinda thing you discuss. Eh, I don't know...
He is not, af far as I understand, going to appear in the show. Only as a voice from time to time.
Kinda hard to involve Padalecki in the same project. Or maybe he will be, as a guest star, at some point ...
