Trans companion for black gay doctor

Always gonna happen. The BBC are determined to kill this show. Is anyone still planning to watch this dross?

(sigh)

I think RTD is pulling out all the LGBTQ+ stops on this new tenure of his.

RTD was famous for helming Queer As Folk, a gay-oriented comedy/drama or whatever and yet he was a Doctor Who fan so the BBC picked him for the revival AKA NuWho.

But whereas the only LGBTQ+ character in the original NuWho run was Captain Jack Harkness, it seems the floodgates will be opened to all letters of the alphabet in this regard, considering that the new Doctor is also gay.

reply

I thought the Ecclestone era and on was NuWho. This era need a a new moniker, BooWho maybe as they are so salty if they hear criticism of their weird cult.

Oh my 😱

J.K. will be Rowling in her grave.

And to answer your question, yes I will be planning to watch the show. Just as you will be planning to watch for any updates to share and remind us why you won’t be watching the show, apparently.

reply

Enjoy watching this shitshow. I will pass thanks. I doubt you will watch either as you will be busy updating the latest made up flags for your twatter bio.

reply

Oooh ouch 😣😆

I don’t use Twitter, but nice swipe anyway.

No one is asking you to watch the show, by the way. Still it’s always fascinating to hear people complain about something they have no intention of watching. Looking forward to your next update about that show you hate. Keep it trending 👍

Will the Doctor take M2F or F2M companion to a planet where genuine biological sex changes are possible? If so, will they have to switch actors, once the genuine change is complete? No, that would raise too many awkward questions about the extremely limited transitioning process available here on Earth.

So my bet is that the new "trans" companion will be a "non-binary", slightly butch, biologically female actor, who identifies as non-binary in real life.

Well, yeah. I like the show. And brand new cast members is always an exciting moment for people who like the show. In this instance I'm not familiar with their work either. I've never seen Ncuti Gatwa or Yasmin Finney in anything, so I'm interested to see what they'll bring. That's always cool.

reply

How refreshing to hear something like this. My thoughts exactly. Bring on the new blood!!

Doctor Who fans have seen so many changes, it always surprises me a little when one pops up who doesn't seem to understand that change is what makes the damn show.

reply

Me too mate. I also can’t get my head around people who accuse you of not being a “true fan” just because you’re not appalled by someone of a different gender or race being cast in the show. I’ve been watching Doctor Who for as long as I can remember, since it’s original run, and like you said change has always been one of the most intriguing things about it. The way I see it, expanding the casting net keeps it fresh and open to more possibilities. For me, if you can suspend disbelief enough to accept an alien with a British accent travelling through time and space in a police box who can regenerate into another form to cheat death, why is it so hard to accept that their gender or colour of their skin might also be able to change? It adds another dimension for me, a fun and exciting twist on a very old tale.

reply

Yup. I don't disagree with a word of that.

I'd also add that every British household that uses the BBC's services has to pay the full licence fee -- so unless and until there's a significant discount for gay Brits or Black Brits or transgender Brits or whatever other category of British TV viewers, it's only right and proper those folk should see themselves reflected back from their screens...

... and the flexibility of Doctor Who around that core concept -- alien/box/space adventures -- makes it a perfect vehicle through which to represent modern Britain.

And here endeth the lecture.

reply

Everybody knows some Doctor Whos are gay... Get over it.

reply

Now I do recognize some words in that babble so I'll give you a little credit.

reply

Replacing a female Doctor and female companion with two men? Sounds about right.

"The BBC are determined to kill this show"

That ship has already sailed. The show died with Capaldi.

reply

And it was pretty bad then!!!
JB

reply

I liked Capaldi.

reply

Honestly, I started to lose interest with Capaldi. I tried with Whitaker but lost interest. Not even gonna try with the new Doctor. Sick of having their agenda rammed down my throat.

reply

Agreed. My interest was low anyways. I'll stick with the classic series!
