...creating a physical, visceral claustrophobic reaction--especially the scene where they get stuck in that narrow tunnel they have to crawl through. That scene is more terrifying to me than any underground creatures....and every time I see it, I have to get up and walk around, catching my breath in the process.
Any movie that can do that....is pretty masterful.

I love the atmosphere of The Descent. One of the best horror pictures ever in my opinion.
I agree 100%! The claustrophobia and psychological terror could have sustained the whole film; definitely scarier than the critters. I enjoyed the ending, but not as much as the beginning and middle.
