Wow... Spielberg can do thrillers

Didn't expect Spielberg to be so good at making a spy thriller.

A lot more adult and visceral then I expected. Yet, strong and nuanced in the drama and philosophical themes... I think he should do more in the genre, or other types of thriller... more movies that are entertaining and aimed at an adult audience

This is the closest we've seen Spielberg trying to deal with adult themes, with relationships between men and women that involve sexuality (the scenes with this wive) and
sex as persuasion (the spy) and such
... Basically exploring the carnal, even if it's for the briefest of moments...

He's so good at the movie-making aspects and know how to tell as story visually, unlike most other directors today... I wish he starts exploring the more sensual aspects of human relationships and such in his film... It would be great to see him tackle more of these types of movies targeted to an adult audience, with actual adult human beings portrayed on screen, their moral choices, their emotions and such...

yeah it was pretty damn good imo

Uh...what do you mean by "adult themes"? If you're talking only sexuality (which...a bit of a reductionist view on "adult themes"), then sure, but if you just mean mature subject matter, he tackles this all the time.

Even if you are talking in terms of a sexual/romantic relationship, I think he's explored that territory before. Catch Me If You Can, for instance. And I'm assuming The Color Purple (I haven't seen the film, but if he's anywhere near the book...)

'Munich' owes a huge debt to an excellent 1994 French film called "Les Patriotes" (The Patriots) directed by Eric Rochant, and was probably inspired by it.

The story and characters are extremely similar. Check it out if you liked Munich.

Actually Munich is basically a remake of “Sword of Gideon” from 1986.

Thanks, didn't know that. Will look it up. Interesting casting: Steven Bauer, Lino Ventura and Rod Steiger... will definitely watch this one.

is it streaming anywhere?

Don't know, but there's a healthy Torrent out there.

Many thanks dude, Sword of Gideon is actually a terrific made-for-TV movie!
Believe or not, I saw it when I was a kid and only remembered the scene where Michael York defuses the bomb in the safe-house in France (then goes for a glass of milk in the fridge...), which really impressed me as a child. Have been trying to find what movie this scene was from for almost 30 years...
