Still the best Spider-Man film!

Don't get me wrong, I am hoping they top it. But everything about this film was great, even the emotion and the score. Particularly the train scene, when the people discover his identity. It shows the connection they have for him. And that all people aren't jerks. Now I know why they call him "Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man".

Not only the best Spider-Man film, for me, the best superhero film period.

You may be right. I am trying to think of how to compare different superhero films.

I absolutely agree. So glad other people think so! Including Roger Ebert.

In the top 10 for sure, and the first high-quality superhero movie of the modern era, 7 years after Batman and Robin nearly destroyed the genre. Batman Begins followed in 2005 and Iron Man in 2008, but Spiderman 2 set the bar to a new level.

One of the best superhero movies ever made and better than anything from the MCU.

reply

I agree. No Spidey film has come close ever since

I enjoyed this film, but I think it's more a case of the others sucking. Like, the Tobey Maguire ones are still enjoyable, but they have aged. The more recent installments, though, were initially terrible and continue to be terrible.

reply

Agreed. Into the Spider-Verse came close. But it's held up so well.

I respectfully disagree TASM Is # 1 for me and Far From Home came pretty dang close Lizard and Mysterio Rival Doc Ock

For a select bunch it clearly is - and it always will be no matter what. I must say that part of said bunch I no longer am. Now, I totally understand why it remains the favorite for many. One of the best comic films ever made? Absolutely. Although, I do have more issues with it today (Maguire’s hilariously over-the-top acting in some scenes... eek) and I by no means would consider it perfect like some of its fans do. Plus, this “it’s the greatest ever” stuff gets preached all over social media... and boring it gets.

So, Spider-Verse aside (which, yes, I’ll unabashedly say is a better film than both SM1 & SM2), the kewl-to-hate spectacular MCU installments> Spider-Man 2
(Lol, better than any film in the elitist-disapproved franchise.)
