Chutney could've said she was wearing a shower cap.

Chutney could've said she was wearing a shower cap. Then Elle would've gone right back to looking stupid, and Chutney wouldn't have been arrested. Could've dodged a huge bullet there. Oh, and she also could've said when she heard the gunshot, she was too scared to go downstairs.

Could have. But I would think being put on the spot like that and not knowing where the questioning was going would cause to not be able to think so fast. No one had suspected her and everyone thought Elle was an idiot so no reason to think of those kind of details. She was guilty and the pressure was on. people tend to not think straight in those conditions.

Chutney ??

LOL?

I always thought that too. But maybe Elle was one step ahead and noticed there was no shower cap in the shower.

They could've added an exchange about the absence of a shower cap without losing momentum or credibility (it's exactly the sort of thing Elle would've noticed in the reports)

But I agree it wouldn't have been necessary. Chutney already knew she was guilty, and when she realized her shower story wasn't credible, she started breaking down. No need to have her invent a shower cap just to have Elle shoot it down.

It does call to mind the famous Lincoln cross-examination, where a witness (who was actually the murderer) claimed he could see at night, after Lincoln confirmed he had no candle, because of the full moon. Without missing a beat, Lincoln whipped out an almanac with a blue cover and asked the witness why the almanac would say there was no moon that night.

Witness cracked, like Chutney, and confessed, like Chutney.

Even though the almanac for that year had a red cover.
