Did Qui-Gon knowingly sacrifice himself?

Same as Obi-Wan did eventually for Luke? He's shown to be something of a throwback in the Jedi Order, believing in the ancient ways and old prophecies and not really toeing the line with the new agenda. Furthermore, did Yoda know this when he paired Qui-Gon up with Obi-Wan? Cause dude. The three of them with Anakin are all outsiders and not in the common thought mold. Yoda really sends a ball spinning there. I think maybe Qui-Gon saw his fate and knew he had to die that day. Knew it would make Obi train Anakin in his stead. And sensed somehow that would all take care of sorting out the Dark Side once and for all.

No. He just lost a fight.

I don't think so, Maul was a more skilled fighter, Qui-Gon seemed past his prime (physically).
From his reaction it seemed like he was caught off guard by Maul's dirty move.

reply

I think it was due to getting run through with a lightsaber. Just a slight pinch, lol.

reply

Okay. Did Obi-Wan, knowing how this motivated himself, intentionally then recreate his Qui-Gon style death for Luke?

reply

I know we're debating soft ball retcons here, but it's all the fun of the saga.

IMO he knew he couldn't beat Vader let alone all the new storm troops. Luke was rash and had never seen what Vader could do and would likely have tried to step in, leading not only to Ob wansis death but Lukes as well and the entire mission. as Luke shoots the controls to the door closing it, you quickly glimpse 4+ more storm troopers. it woulda been a 100% chance loss. this way he bought them time and he could still mentor Luke.

reply

No. Qui Gon wanted to kill Maul but couldn't. And then Maul got unlucky when he fought his apprentice because Obi Wan had the low ground

I love that scene so much. Obi was young, hot headed and pissed off and fired up by vengeance. He shredded Maul's ass in the most ludicrous of circumstances. Fast forward to the future where things play out with Anakin, roles reversed, and he shreds that dudes's ass again. Angry Obi is scary as F.

Well hopefully in the new Andor series, they write in another confrontation with Obi Wan and Vader we see Obi Wan take Vader down again and barely escape death

reply

Obi Wan is a beast. They didn't have that fight in the Obi Wan movie?
