Was 1998 Blade the 1st modern comic book movie? Or was it 2002 Spiderman?

reply

X-Men came out in 2000.

I'd put that above Blade because they were known more, and Blade is still a vampire movie. Meaning, unless you like those or comic book movies, you aren't going to see it. X-Men, Spiderman, Batman, all transcend the genre.

the best blade ever...

For me it was Blade. Most people who saw the movie had no idea that Blade was even a Marvel character or had appeared in a print series.

I didn't know until yesterday lol. Pretty sure I saw all of the trilogy as well. Definitely saw the first two.

Not unusual and neither the industry nor Marvel has really given that first Blade film the recognition that it rightfully earned. In no way was Marvel embarrassed about Blade but they just didn't own the rights. After the success of Blade Snipes really wanted to do Black Panther. The timing wasn't right and the technology, story telling and new writers to BP made that a moot point. The BP we have now is better than what would have been the Wesley treatment back then but Snipes would have made an awesome T'Challa.

I think it would have been stellar, it just wouldn't have aged well as a movie for the given time.

And it’s the first movie to show bullet time, before matrix

No. Spawn, 1997.

And as adept as Wesley Snipes is at martial art, and I have great respect for him, Michael Jai White is better. Amazingly fast for such a big man.
