Seatbelt

When K tells J to fasten his seatbelt, J ignores him. Seatbelt laws have become more strict in recent years, but did it used to be common for people to not wear their seatbelts in cars?

reply

My guess: J was a police officer before joining MIB. Police officers often do not wear seat belts while on patrol so they can get out of the car quickly if necessary.

You spelled "because the rules don't apply to them" wrong.

Seatbelt laws didn't really become a thing until around 1995. I just looked that up. I did know some people who refused to wear seatbelts despite those laws. I never bothered arguing with them cause there is no point. They'd just insist it wasn't necessary. The people I know though do wear seatbelts now that they have kids but before they had kids they wouldn't do it.

I used to never where a seatbelt, then I got slapped with a 400$ fine and four points of my licence. I always wear it now.

Wow, the seatbelt law came into effect in 1987 where I live.

I thought we were behind the times. :)
