Heh heh 3.5" disks are still used... plus nobody calls it the Net anymore! However this film, while not terribly impressive or well-acted, serves kinda like a timepiece/reference of when the Internet was still a rather mystical and far-off idea to most computer users. So this early Bullock vehicle hasn't aged well, but she has :)

It’s amazing how far we’ve come, technically, in twelve years.

I was just saying the exact same thing to my girlfriend. Two examples I noticed was the size of her laptop and the size of the cell phone she uses; both have massively decreased in size since twelve years ago.

That's what makes this movie so watchable :) It's entertainment value is enhanced by the spot-the-outdated-technology/terms game.

It's like the other guy said, it makes it more entertaining. Also, I remember watching this movie around '96 I guess it was, and at least for me back then, some of the stuff she did, like ordering plane tickets and pizzas online, seemed really "high-tech". which only makes it seem even more outdated :)

While not one of the greatest films ever, it's fairly entertaining and suspenseful for the most part. Plus, if you view every film that uses technology in it's telling of the story they'll all be dated. And they date more quickly than ever.

I watched this tonight. It's been years since I had seen it. Couldn't help laughing out loud when she dialed up! I remember those days...dial-up and my mom yelling at me to get off the computer because she needed to use the phone. Haha!

What made me smile was the comment about everything getting smaller. The pre iphone/ipad perspective didn't last long and everything got large again real fast.

The other big change of course is 911. The amount of physical documentation needed post war on terror to do even simple things, is something that could never have been imagined. And of course makes this movie's scenario pretty much impossible today.

The "time for uploading the program" suspense was more believable back then - it was used a lot in the show "24" as well. Trying to build tension with the "waiting for the program to load" gimmick would be harder to sell today.
