How can Bond be the good guy you root for in GoldenEye?

In GoldenEye, after villain General Ouromov frames Bond for murdering the Russian Defence Minister, he goes on a rampage and kills a lot of Russian soldiers in that base to get out of there. Now mind you the Russians are not the villains in this movie and those soldiers only responded to a call from Ouromov who cried out after framing Bond. So, these are completely innocent soldiers.

We're supposed to root for these guy? What makes Bond think his life is more valuable than the soldiers he killed? if he was actually a good guy he would've rather surrendered or get killed instead of manslaughter.

Captain America showed us the way.

Falcon: "How do we know who the bad guys are?"

Cap: "If they're shooting at us, they're bad."

Him shooting innocent soldiers bothered me as well, but there's no way he or Natalya were getting out of there alive to save the world after the Russians thought he had shot the Defense Minister. Ouromov would've made sure of that.

They probably could've written it differently so he wouldn't have been in such a situation in the first place.

They are collateral damage.

He killed about 10 -30 Russian soldiers. Yeah. May they Rest In Peace.

But without killing those soldiers, he would not have stopped the bad guys, and without stopping the bad guys, millions or billions of innocent people would have died.

The cost / benefit shows that he did more good than bad overall. The amount of Russian soldiers who died is small compared to the amount of innocent people who Sean Bean would have killed.
