Did this movie in a way, ruin Alex Proyas' career due to the circumstances behind Brandon Lee's death?

At least in the sense that he never really got more chances despite having directed Dark City and the Will Smith vehicle I, Robot.

Destroy his career ? Dark City was brilliant, the fact he stopped doing interesting films after Dark City and abandoned the kind of style that he excelled at is what hampered his career.

Gods of Egypt was pretty atrocious.

I did enjoy I, Robot a lot. But yeah, GoE was an abomination.

It was okay I suppose but not a patch on his first two films, shame as he looked to have real potential in the 90s with the two films he made.

Would loved to have seen him have a go at Batman, Just the other day I was saying I think he’d have been a perfect replacement for Tim Burton to take over the Batman films.

reply

OMG yes I totally agree. He would’ve been an amazing choice for a Batman film. I would’ve loved to have seen how that turned out. Unfortunately we got Nolan’s version which was, let’s face it total shite!

He should have directed Batman Forever.

On shoots, the director is ultimately responsible for the safety of the cast and crew. There’s a precedent in the Midnight Rider/Randall Miller case for the director being sent to prison for involuntary manslaughter and his producers and APs being sentenced to fines and probation when Sarah Jones was struck and killed by a train during a scene on a track on a bridge, I believe. Interesting in this case because Joel Souza, the director, was also shot in the accident.

Speaking of which, unless they were both somehow injured by blanks, somebody put live ammo in the prop gun and the police need to figure that ish out ASAP.

Here's an old discussion that asks about the exact extent of culpability if any, that Alex Proyas has concerning Brandon Lee's tragic death:
