Let's get a bit superficial and talk looks, of both characters and actors.

Let me get even more superficial and start with the women, because they're the real eye candy.

So, as far as I'm concerned, Jen and Courtney were the top hotties (and still are). I'd say Monica was the best-looking one in season 1, then Rachel in 2 to 6, then Monica in 7 to 9, then Rachel again in 10, and right now I'd say it's Courtney again. She's clearly had some work done, but it looks good.

Lisa never did it for me. Only time I thought she looked good was when she worked as a stockbroker.

As to the boys, I'd say they've all more-or-less lost their looks by now. David was never really good-looking to begin with, though he may have been considered attractive in a nonconventional way. LeBlanc lost them gradually throughout the show, and now he's just some overweight dad. For Perry, it was on and off during the show, before going downhill afterwards.

I was always a Monica man. As far as the dudes go, I'd probably have go with Ross, if for anything, for consistency. Dude pretty much looked the same for the whole run of the show, the others either got bloated or drug dependent.

For me, Matthew Perry was the only one out of the three guys with sex appeal and charm. He was also handsome, except for when his substance abuse problems took a toll on his appearance. The other two guys are plain and not very attractive. As for the girls, Lisa Kudrow is the least attractive. Courteney Cox is pretty but lacks sex appeal. Jennifer Aniston is both sexy and good looking.

Yeah, Aniston exuded a certain womanly confidence and demeanor that was very attractive, and dressed the part. Less so in seasons 7-9, but was overall the hotter one. Cox clearly had a more reserved personality, and her character's neuroticism didn't help.

Don't know about sex appeal for the guys, but yeah, Perry was #1 when it came to straight-up good looks. Though LeBlanc could rival him in the first season.

I saw an ep recently where Rachel and Phoebe were nuts over some older guy. Phoebe liked him more and it seemed like they were both ready to go out with him but Rachel decided to let Phoebe have him.

How pissed off would he have been?! You lose Aniston for Kudrow? Really? Not fair and not right at all.

I thought all the women were a bit too skinny though and tended to prefer Ross's girlfriends over the main 3.

As a straight guy I am not the best judge but didn't see the big deal about any of the guys especially Joey who was supposed to be some kind of chick magnet. Even his approach and attitude was terrible.

I see the episode you're referring to. The old guy who showed up wasn't the one they were expecting, but some hunky boss of his. Phoebe went nuts over him, but Rachel didn't and only pretended to "let her have him". No way Rachel would lie with that unless big sums were involved.

Agree about Joey. He was the male version of every man in the show finding Phoebe super pretty.

I should of included that I caught the ep half way through! I didn't know he wasn't the same guy but I'd still be pissed off seeing Aniston and ending up with Kudrow.

Joey was always a poorly thought out character to me. He's an aspiring actor but doesn't know anything about anything. Not especially good looking or charming either.

Skinny Monica was disgusting esp when she had that fringe though i could be thinking of Scream 3.

Yeah it's weird at their bests Cox is probably better looking technically on paper but Aniston had a sexy way about her that made her so attractive. That bit when she said she wasn't wearing any underwear was so hot

Pheobe was never hot even when she talked about how good she was in the bedroom it did nothing for me

Schwimmer really tried didn't he, not only on his character which he asked to make funnier but his looks he was always trying something with his hair an whatnot whereas the other two let themselves go.

Early Chandler was hansome and even fat Chandler was'nt that bad but the ultra thin one was disturbing

Side question who was the hottest person ever on the show? couple that spring to my mind

Jill the one Chandler gets locked in the bank with
The dark curly girl Joey goes out with who has other lovers

That was definitely Scream 3, and yes she looked terrible!

Janice. There was something about her. Yes, her voice was annoying as ****, but there's no way I'd have been trying to ditch her!

You could almost have a whole thread on annoying/bitchy type women on TV shows who would expect to be unattractive but are actually hot. It was the same on Fraiser, the way he talks about Lilith and then you see her and she is hot. On Two and a half men there was Judith the ex wife of Alan who was also attractive.

Aniston has a classic movie type of presence and look about her. Cox had more of a girl next door vibe atleast until she started losing weight. After Friends she went in for boob jobs and botox and ruined herself entirely.

Oddly enough I though Lisa was hot when she was playing Ursula especially in Mad About You. She was obviously younger but looking back she also wasn't underweight.

Does every character suit being played by a hottie though? Ross is very much the every man, a little Beta. Just trying to do the right thing then finds out his wife is into women and leaves him. This wouldn't work as well if Ross was played by someone traditionally good looking or hot. Schwimmer has that stand up guy kind of look about him which worked well in Band of Brothers and of course Friends.

Chandler is a bit of a klutz and also wouldn't work if played by someone really good looking.

Joey is the stand out because he actually would have been better off played by someone really good looking and body proud. His lame pick up lines would be given some credit if he was actually good looking. He certainly isn't charming.

Back to Phoebe, she doesn't have to be played by a hottie either. She is a hippie try hard and kooky. Similar to the receptionist character on Becker who was played by a hottie but they also played up that characters sex life.

A lot of the women the guys went out with were better looking than the three main actresses.

Monica was always the babe of the show for me. And Janice. I had a real thing for Janice.
