I always thought that the annoying kid bugging Sam Neill on the dig site was just part of a group of tourists being given a tour or something, but apparently he's credited as "volunteer boy". What the hell does that even mean?

Huh. It maybe a reference to the novel where it's one of his college assistants that says that line. Either that or the role was originally supposed to go to one of his other employees in that scene and they changed it at the last minute. Does it say that on imdb or in the actual credits at the end the movie?

Weren't they all paleontologists? I'm assuming he was somebody's kid who was just helping out.

He had quite the attitude and didn't seem to know a lot about dinosaurs if one of his parents was working on the dig site. What would "volunteer boy" even suggest???

I agree. But you realize if it is on imdb it might just be something someone unrelated to the movie edited in. Maybe someone just put that as a nod to those who read the novel and remember one of his employees saying that it didn't looks scary. it's funny in the novel Grant just simply says, "Well he wouldn't be. Not til he got older." since it was a fossil of a baby Velicoraptor in the novel.

I just saw that the movie's end credits say the same thing. So what would "volunteer" imply? A college student of Grant helping out at the dig site?

If he's the vessel for Kruger, I wonder if Kruger was volunteering for the dig? ;)
