Are the Sanderson Sisters ghosts?
Also what did the Salem Townsfolk do with the corpses after the sisters were hanged?

shareNo, they aren't ghosts.
They died, but were brought back to life by magic. And they weren't zombies, either.
OK, I still wonder what happened to their corpses after they were hanged? Did the people of Salem leave them hanging to rot? Were they burned or just dumped in a pit and buried?
shareAll I know is that they wouldn't have been buried in consecrated ground. Sorry!

One of the things that bothered me about the whole consecrated ground issue was the witches reanimated Billy to chase the kids because they themselves couldn't go into the consecrated cemetery. Yet at the end of the film, Winnie falls off her broom to the ground, and gets up and walks to Max to grab him - no harm, no foul apparently..
Maybe avortac will put that in one of his "doesn't make sense" rants...
Most of the time, the bodies of the Salem Witch Trials would just be dumped somewhere. Many were found around the Old Burying Point Cemetery. Sometimes families would sneak in and give them a proper burial.

Interesting!
I wonder if the sisters could have also been buried behind their house - they didn't take long to get back into the house after Max lit the candle.
I have a feeling the townsfolk chose not to bury them, for fear they might come back, so they probably cremated them, or weighted them down and threw them overboard out at sea.
Based on how they interacted with everything in the movie 300 years later, and what Winifred said about the spell; they temporarily had fresh, solid, real bodies again, and were in the same state they were in right before they were hanged 300 years earlier. But it only would last until dawn.
