Clint considered old back then

It is interesting how Clint Eastwood was considered old when this movie came out and now 30 years have past and he is still making movies!

reply

Hope he can keep making movies for at least another +30 years.

reply

I doubt another 30 years, but would love to see him still be active in front and behind the camera past the age of 100 just to prove someone that old can still be creative and productive. It also would be nice to see him make one last appearance as his Man with No Name and Dirty Harry characters.

So, if the Man with No Name was around thirty during the Civil War (The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly), he was born around 1830 to 1835. He would be Clint's age in the 1920s. It would be interesting to see what he was up to then.

reply

Yeah, would be awesome to have one last western with Clint, since the 1920s was probably the last of the “Old West” in any capacity and since Clint today really is the last of “Old Hollywood” still active in modern Hollywood.

reply

yeah, it's kind of funny. a lot of the hype of the movie was rolling out this old fossil for one last round of action entertainment. since then, actors like Liam Neeson have gone on to carve entire careers out of the formula. I believe the marketing for this film actually created an entire new genre in Hollywood.

I also assume that it was emphasized for this particular movie because life expectancy back in the time period when Unforgiven takes places was considerably lower that it is today... so perhaps that 60 year old man in the movie was like seeing a 90 year old for us today?

Gene Hackman and Richard Harris weren't any spring chicken either.

In Cry Macho he looked like a walking corpse
