Lorraine Bracco

I can't believe that Lorraine Bracco, got a raspberry award for her performance. I thought she did a wonderful job playing her role in this movie and made it really come to life. I's like to know who picks the razzies because they also chose Demi Moore, and Sandra Bullock, in performances. Boy, what a bunch of losers they are.

reply

She got a raspberry for her performance in this film because it is an awful performance in fact she should get one for most of her work, she is an absolute abysmally bad actress and I'm shocked she ever gets work in Hollywood.

You MUST be a moron.

I had never seen Lorraine Bracco in anything before I saw her in Medicine Man, and despite what others say, I found her quite good in her role.

Sure. she was a little obnoxious to begin with, but that is what the character was supposed to be, but by the middle, I found her quite likeable, and I found her strangely attractive, especially after she was given the blue tattoo on her forehead.

But Connery was the true magic of this tale!

Anybody who is defending her in this movie, would you happen to be deaf people? Because it should be perfectly clear to anybody who is human and possess working ears that the noises she make are the most annoying possible noises a person can make. I mean she's on par with the crying of babies and toddlers! And as an actress making those noises, she's not even able to weave her annoying whining into her acting in a professional way to make it endearing or lovable, it's just noise. Even without her squealing I think she'd probably have been a bad actress.
Maybe to some alien species, the whining resembles their alien mating call and if you are a member of that species, you find this performance delightful, but we humans do not enjoy these kind of noises. When we hear something making this kind of noise, we're supposed to step on it so that it doesn't suffer anymore.

Me too. She has an unusual beauty that goes well in certain roles.

That's beside the point.

https://www.datalounge.com/thread/16916169-film-sets-that-were-a-notorious-nightmare-to-work-on....

I remember reading a piece in Premiere Magazine back in the 1990s about the Sean Connery film Medicine Man...in addition to it being a jungle shoot (rarely easy) Lorraine Bracco, who was just coming off Goodfellas, was a nightmare. Non-stop bitching about everything from the food to the weather to the script, and demanding as fuck, with a massive entourage (nannies, hairstylists, makeup artists, acting coach, etc etc). She drove Sean Connery and the director John McTiernan batshit and was loathed among the crew. At some point it was arranged that McTiernan would convey any direction he had for her to her acting coach, who would in turn pass it on to Lorraine, because McTiernan refused to deal with her shit any more. Connery stopped speaking to her as well. And after all that trouble, her performance was a disaster, on a par with Kate Capshaw's in Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom. It pretty much killed her brief career as an A-lister. The Sopranos rescued her from the dump, years later.

so what, that's how actors get attention. Connery was a known egotistical a-hole, especially to women. Bracco probably had to hold her own, and then like most women - got blamed for it. And of course the crew had to please the big star ... so what else would expect?

reply

I appreciate your balancing things out here. From the way they're talking, you'd think Lorraine was the devil incarnate on set.

I was just born with the contrarian gene .... anything I hear anyone saying anything I always have an urge to point out the other side of the issue, particularly when the person is saying something that is bullying or punching down on a group. It should just be inherently repulsive to any civilized being!

Thanks so much; I'm going to give it a rewatch this weekend.

Executive Producer Connery hand-picked her for the role after seeing her in “Goodfellas.” Hard to say exactly why she didn’t quite grasp the role, but she didn’t. You'd hear her citing biological data and she seemed like an imposter. That being said, it did NOT justify a GR award.

It should be mentioned that Connery (and director McTiernan) ended up regretting the choice. She was very difficult to work with (Granted, the working conditions were very bad.), whined daily about wanting to go home and had Connery and McTiernan ready to deck her a few times.

Yeah, hitting women was Connery's great skill, next to misogyny.

Sean Connery should have bitch-slapped Lorraine Bracco in this movie. For real.
She ruined the movie and she is a terrible actress.
I can see why see was voted ugliest girl in her class.
She has no talent and cannot make up for that with hard work.

Lorraine Bracco remembers Sean Connery:

Aside from being a tremendous talent, Sean is a beautiful, thoughtful, generous & loving person. He was responsible for making one of the most memorable experiences of my life possible—we were shooting Medicine Man in Catemaco Mexico and Sean didn’t want me to miss the Oscar ceremony that year since I was nominated. Among other things, he made all of the arrangements for me so I wouldn’t miss out on the experience and I am forever grateful to him for that. My love to Michele and the family...I’ll miss you old friend ❤️

I can't believe people soak up this BS. Actors in public and on talk shows always flatter and compliment, and glorify each other - because it makes big money for people to think of them as one big hugging family ... that is what the movies are all about - conveying an implicit vision of the world. And that goes triple when they die and people remember them.

You sound like a real charmer. People like you normally have that reaction because they have been "bitch-slapped" to much in their lives.

It's a hard role. One of two people in the movie that speaks english. When she isn't complaining she's drunk or under some other influence. It does get old fast but it was the writing more than her abilities. I still love the movie but I would say they needed to pull back on her levels when they did the sound mix.

I liked this movie, and while it may not be the best movie for some, it is memorable for a lot of us, and the Razzie losers have to pick movies enough people have seen and liked in order for them to know what they are talking about. Let's just hope any publicity is good publicity, and she has memorable roles afterward.

Even Hollywood producer Joel Silver lambasted her performance in the December 1993 issue of Empire.
