My therapist told me to watch this

Can someone tell me why?

reply

Do you need to get away from an abusive husband? Or are you one?

reply

neither

reply

Afraid of water?

reply

OCD?

reply

Riiight... Forgot about that one.

reply

I do have severe OCD.

reply

I don't know if you are taking the piss with this thread or not, but if you do actually suffer OCD and your therapist suggested you watch this movie, your therapist is a fucking asshole.

reply

No I promise I am not lying. She really did have me watch this. I could never figure out why.

reply

Because the villain in the movie has OCD but it´s not the main focus of the movie. Seems incredibly rude of your therapist to recommend you this movie just because you have OCD.

reply

More than rude Billy, I think the inference would be "watch this movie so you can see what type of psychos suffer from OCD". I doubt any registered health professional would be stupid enough to make such a recommendation.

I'm not calling PorkChop a liar, but I think they might be being a bit of a pork chop.

reply

No I literally was told to watch this movie. I don't know how else to prove it but I swear on everything ever.

Do you really think that was her line of thought? She was in her mid to late 20's. I kept thinking why am I told to watch this.

reply

Seems very odd indeed. Didn´t you bother to ask her why she recommended this to you?

reply

no I don't know why I didn't ask her. I guess I was scared of the answer.

reply

And so did you watch it after she recommended it?

reply

Yes I did watch it. I don't have the same kind of OCD as that guy though so it didn't cross my mind that that was why I was assigned to watch it.

reply

Welcome to 2019. the year of the ghoul.

reply

what?

reply

You were not

reply

Ignore!

reply

Hello! Well it really depends on her tone and the context. Maybe she was just recommending a somewhat decent movie that happens to feature a character with OCD because she thought you might enjoy it. It's hard to guess her reasons without knowing the context of how she brought it up.

reply

Well she assigned it as "Homework." In her style of therapy "Homework" was given every week for me to work on.

reply

Ok, I am going to start by giving her the benefit of the doubt.. She could have assigned this "homework" so you could see an extreme type of OCD and how it can affect others in your life, kind of like showing an alcoholic videos of people who have been affected by drunk drivers. However, there are plenty of other movies out there she could have recommended that show OCD in a much more realistic and positive light, such as "As Good As It gets" with Jack Nicholson.

Honestly, there was another poster above who said "I think the inference would be "watch this movie so you can see what type of psychos suffer from OCD". I doubt any registered health professional would be stupid enough to make such a recommendation." and I completely agree with him/her. To advise you to watch this movie which really has nothing to do with OCD other than the villain being a perfectionist is incredibly unprofessional and I hope you found a new therapist.

Hope this helps!

I did look a bit more just out of curiosity and found a couple of websites about therapy and movies. Here are 2 links that may help you:

Take care!

reply

On that willieverbegoodenough list is Sleeping With The Enemy.

reply

I saw that too. Maybe she thought there was something in that story you could relate to but if you are not at all narcissistic, abusive, being abused or violent then I still think it was very wrong for her to make viewing it your homework.
