Why didn't this work?

I think one of the frustrating things about Hook is despite all of the talented people involved, there is just something about this movie that doesn't gel together.

John Williams score is good, the acting is not bad, Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman and Bob Hoskins are excellent, yet the movie is a misfire.

For myself, I think the movie looks to stagey. Everything in Neverland is an obvious set, and would be at home on Broadway, but on the big screen it somehow doesn't work for me.

I like Peter's journey to rediscover himself as Pan. There are good scenes in the movie but it just never fits together properly.

I found much of it boring.

I'm a big fan of Robin Williams and had never seen this one. There were some good parts that I can't think of now. Oh, the dog burying the phone was cool. I did like the huge set that looked like a Broadway play set. It was really beautiful but boring... to me.

A lot of people enjoyed it . That's great.

What really kind of kills the movie for me is the end, that final fight between Peter and Hook should have been epic but it was just really corny and stupid in my opinion. Especially the part where the fight just stops and everyone says "I believe in you", that was so stupid. But yeah Hoffman and Williams were great.

I'll first say that I loved this movie as a kid. My brother and I were both Peter Pan fans as young kids, so we had a lot of fun seeing it in live-action. The story was also very original. The only real problem is perspective.

While kids enjoy this film; grown-ups do not. Many parents were made uncomfortable by the tension between Peter and his family, and a lot of them had to see a very real adult fear from watching Peter and Moira frantically searching for their kids when they were kidnapped. No parent should ever have to go through that. Grown-ups were also bothered by the sexual innuendos in the pirate town, nor did they like seeing Smee kiss Hook on the cheek in that scene where Hook almost killed himself. It was also disturbing watching a kid get killed in the movie, when the bad guy gets killed in Disney Villain fashion.

The only reason my parents were okay with this film, was because they liked seeing Peter become a better person, as well as doing what any heroic movie dad should do, and go to the ends of the earth to save his kids. Plus, Robin Williams made it funny.

The film was great...until never, never land.

I actually loved the sets. The big ships.

Why not destroy them?

Would have made a fun Universal ride.
