how close is monk's to jerry's apartment building?

The exterior shot of the building make it pretty clear Monk's is not on the ground floor. I think it is taken to be a short walk away somewhere on the Upper West Side. Typical of Manhattan life, very walkable.

Thats odd, there is a sidewalk next to Monks. Why would the sidewalk not be on the ground floor?

Maybe they are confusing Jerry's apartment because Monk's aka Tom's Diner is definitely on the ground floor.

In real-life, Monk's is actually Tom's diner located at 2880 Broadway, New York, NY 10025. It's a first floor restaurant .

On the show, I think Monk's is nearby, but a different building.

Pretty far since Jerry lives in New York and Monk lives in San Francisco.
