Authenticity

Are the karate moves authentic or are the actors just goofing around?

reply

Some of the moves are genuine Karate moves and it's fair to assume there is a Martial Arts co-ordinator who works with the actors.

reply

There's no assumption. Pat Johnson, the referee, was the coordinator/choreographer. He taught all of them. There's actually a picture out there of him working with Pat Morita and Martin Kove together.

reply

You’ll have to excuse wears. He has a limited understanding of karate.

reply

What an odd thing to say when you yourself have no understanding of Karate at all, yet I have been training for 40 years and currently hold the rank of 7th dan Blackbelt. Still, I suppose that is you just being obtuse...again!

reply

You’re like Gareth from the Office reminding people he served in the territorial army every five minutes. No one cares.

reply

No, I only remind people like you who have this delusion that you know more about a subject in which you have no experience than someone who has many years experience and the qualifications to back it up. You are the A typical armchair general/coach who always thinks their opinion outranks anyone else's despite you not being piss wise in the first place.

reply

Funnily enough I was thinking about the Cobra Kai series. I know Pat Johnson was the co-ordinator for Karate Kid and was a real life Martial Artist (he was in Enter the Dragon).
The training for the first KK movie and the full movie rehearsal is on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0cu0If_CT4. It's an interesting watch.

reply

Barnes, Silver and Kreese were legit. Macchio didn’t take fitness very seriously and it showed.

reply

Which has nothing to do with what the OP asked is it?
It would seem you have limited understanding of reading what was asked so decided to post something anti-Macchio instead. Let go of the hate, it will set you free.

reply

They are very authentic. I've kicked some ass in bar fights using the crane kick a few times

reply

Did you win a bar fight by doing a kata too?

reply

Yes. I have used these movies as a tutorial for my self defense skills

reply

Wow. Did the entire bar gasp with anticipation when you performed the kata? Did they erupt in cheers when you connected a perfectly executed kata to a clean and crisp flip? Did you yell to the bar keep “Forget about it!! I won!! Yeaaaaah!” and buy everyone a round of beers? Had WA been there he would have been beaming with pride.

reply

I once ripped someone's throat out, roadhouse style. All I got was a court date.

reply

Well done. A man can’t breathe he can’t fight.

reply

I once fought Bruce Lee underwater.
