So indy gets inmortal ?

He drank from the holy grail so that means he will live forever ? if so tell me in what state he lives i wanna visit him LOL

reply

little did indy realize that the knight had farted in the holy grail.

this would give the drinker brain damage so he would try and retrieve the grail even after he saw another person in the exact same position try and fall to their death.

You have to keep drinking from the Grail to stay alive. The Knight sometimes didn't drink, which is why he was an old man instead of still young and strong. His two brothers left the Temple and lived much longer than someone from that time would've lived, so the Cup's power lasts outside the Temple.

The Seal triggers a final trap to destroy the place if you take the Cup out, but if you still get out and keep drinking (I don't know if you have to drink Holy water or not) you'll be immortal.

Indy would be pushing 60 in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but was still healthy and strong (in the 1950s, 60 was OLD). We can assume this is due to the Cup.

Where is that said?

The knight said that not crossing the seal was the price of immortality. Once crossed, the clock starts again.

The Grail would be pretty useless if it had no power outside of that Temple.

Perhaps, but we're not the screen-writers or theologians. We can't change things because we believe it would be better our way.

And as the knight said: "that's the price of immortality".

That Nazi wanted immortality, but he could only have it as long as he remained in the temple. That's the price..

The Knight was probably just saying that to keep anyone from trying to take the Grail away.

Its making me feel like a failure

Basically, even if you drank from the grail, the moment you walked past the seal (hopefully not holding the cup), that immortality you gained is lost. You become mortal and age normally again. It was the same for Indy's dad, where he drank a bit from the cup, and then had his bullet wound healed. But he too lost what immortality he would have gained from the grail, because he too left with Indy and Sala at the end.

That's why the knight lived for so long. He never left that cave. So on the one hand, you could live forever by drinking from the grail, but you can't leave the cave. Sounds like a crappy deal to me.

reply

What if the knight did leave once in a while? Maybe sometimes he went outside to go for a walk, and get some air, some sun. It seems reasonable since he obviously was aging, and could barely even lift his sword by the time Indy showed up. All those little outings over 700 years caught up with him. Either that or the grail does not grant true immortality, but just a very limited immortality.

reply

I just wanted to add that I am pretty sure the knight implied with his comment that the grail only gave you healing and immortality if you drank from the fountain next to where it was hidden.

reply

I'm not sure about that. The water container (that looked like a baptismal font) was never mentioned, only drinking from the Grail was. IOW, there was nothing unusual about the water, only the Grail.

reply

Then what did he mean that the grail wouldn't work if you took it past the seal? I figured it meant that once you take it outside the cave it was hidden in, it no longer had the power of immortality. Meaning the baptism font was the only way to get the power of the grail.

reply

Two different things I believe.

If you drank from the cup of Christ, you would be immortal as long as *you* didn't cross the seal. The water font was in the chalice room for convenience, but I think if you put in bottled water or Fresca in the Grail it would still give you immortality, as long as you didn't cross the seal.

It therefore makes sense that even if you Star-Trek-transported the Grail out of the cave, then it would have no effect on immortality because anyone using it would be across the seal.

So if you wanted immortality, you would drink from the cup (any refreshing beverage I believe) and do it on the cave side of the seal. That's the price of immortality. Kind of a Twilight Zone ending if you think about it.
