Would an original show featuring the rest of the cast work?

I know all the talk online after Roseanne was fired and the show was cancelled is maybe bringing the show back without Roseanne and making Darlene the lead, but what about a completely different show featuring all the remaining actors but in different roles? It'd be a win-win, I think. It would solve the PR nightmare of having to bring back Roseanne Barr or worse, the show continuing without her and not being the same and also solve the problem of just throwing all of the rest of the cast away due to her tweet.

I don't know what the show would be, but with wonderful actors like Laurie Metcalf and John Goodman (who have great chemistry together, too), something great could be built around them and the rest of the cast, something fresh and interesting. They're contracted for a whole additional season and will be paid anyway, so why not try it? Plus, it wouldn't be unheard of to use the same cast for different characters and stories. Ryan Murphy does it every year with American Horror Story.

I just thought I'd throw that out there for the sake of discussion. What do you think?

I would watch it, for the very reason that I watch this show. I was just curious about what a show about a Trump supporter would be like and how that would be depicted. I only saw anything to do with Trump on the first episode. Most of the other stuff about Muslims and stuff were politely handled, even politically correct. I kept watching because I wanted to see what the big controversy was, not because I thought it was that great or funny.

The show was a kind of forum. Watch it and see what others might say. It was kind of an interesting idea, except they did not really make us of it or try it. It was not that good, funny, and deliberately skirted the issues with political correctness, and I think that is the only reason people watched it ... to see what the controversy was. I am not saying that was wrong, just that it did not really expand to fill its supposed niche.

They could still do a good show. For example, a new season could start with Roseanne being in a coma or dead from a botched knee surgery. They would not need to show her. The family would be on the hook for medical costs, and have to decide to let her go, and be upset about it. Dan would be a widower. How do they get by? It would be a challenge, but it could also be a real ground breaker.

Maybe they try to sue the doctor for malpractice and find out that they are limited to sue for less than Roseanne's treatment cost thanks for Republican's weakening of tort law that protects people from corporate malfeasance, so they are still in the hole, also thanks for Trump's destruction of ObamaCare.

Dan could do his taxes and finds that all the tax money he got back and more has gone to health care, and higher gas prices because Trump has been shooting his big mouth off about Iran and tensions are higher in the Middle East and oil prices are rising. But since he is doing a job for a very rich guy with a huge corporation he finds that that guy saves several million on his taxes, and his tax cuts are permanent while the family's tax cuts will sunset in a few years.

It could work ... I'd for sure watch it! ;-)

I think that would be hard. It is difficult enough for an actor that has been in a sitcom for a while to not be associated with that role. To do this for an entire ensemble without thinking of their old characters imo would be hard. Not sure how old you are, however, I remember when they took out the lead in Valerie (Valerie Harper) and went on without her as the Hogan Family.

But she had been fired because she wanted a larger salary for herself. She did not call a very prominent person bigoted comments, critical difference.

The show was not pulled because of what she did. They planned on removing her and going on as is. It did not tarnish the rest of the series...

It's a good idea. I would watch just to see what they would do. If it is the same writers, I think we have a winner.
