I never really liked this movie

I'm surprised that according to Robert Englund this seems like the fan favorite. Freddy had some great moments but I didn't like the dream team, the way Nancy was used, her death was lame and also Saxon got a disappointing death. I would put this close to the bottom on my list.

Anyone else agree or am I missing something?

This is always what I hated about it. Nancy is wasted and her death means nothing. Thankfully New Nightmare brought her back

Umm...you didn't actually watch New Nightmare, did you?

Anyone here mentions Hotel California dies before the first line clears his lips.

reply

What's that supposed to mean? I'm not wrong. 'New Nightmare' once again uses Heather Langenkamp in a lead role, albeit playing herself rather than Nancy.

"We're not too old for this sh*t!" -Riggs and Murtaugh, 'Lethal Weapon 4' (1998)

reply

You said you were thankful they brought Nancy back for New Nightmare. Which they did not. Her character still died in 3.

reply

Correct. Heather Langenkamp, played by Heather Langenkamp, is not the same character as Nancy Thompson.

Thit and thpin!

reply

Okay, okay, forgive me for using "Nancy" instead of "Heather". Same difference.

reply

Technically at the very end, she again becomes Nancy

That's where my train of thought was going with it.

You don't know what you're talking about. She played Nancy at the end of it, just as John Saxon played her father at the end of it. That's why there's a note from Wes Craven on the script at the end of the movie that says, "Heather - Thanks for having the guts to play Nancy one last time."

Part 3, while not my personal favorite, is one of the best entries in the series. For most of the people I know who are also fans, it is their favorite. Yes, you are missing something.

I thought they should have brought back Lisa Zane in New Nightmare instead of Heather. Like the Freddy demon is mad that Lisa Zane killed Freddy once and for all in Freddy's Dead and instead of John Saxon and the actor who played Rod Lane bring in the actors who played Doc, John Doe, Tracy, Carlos and Spencer

I was thinking that 4 years

Its a fan fav because it satisfies both camps people who like scary freddy an people who like funny freddy it balances both in terms of nancys dad he never really did anything to begin with in the first as for nancy yes she diddnt do much of nothing in this an died like an idiot but she wasnt the main character any way it was really the doctor neil that was she was there along for the ride as the old sage lol

I've never been a big fan either. It's very dated nowadays. It's started off good, but all this Dream powers stuff turns it into Captain Planet and the planeteers. There's very cheesy lines and scenes. "I am the wizard master!", "he's turning us against each other!", etc. Nancy looks really drab here with her clothes and hair. She seems a lot dumber than in the others and her death is because she believed Freddy was defeated because the windows broke?! Give me a break. It's never shown what kind of relationship with Neil she has. He's way too old for it to seem romantic. That doctor Simms is really hateful. We see the poor likeable Max slashed, but the one time we finally get to see something happen to this bitch, when Kristen throws something at her, it misses! Talk about cheating the audience. I could have tolerated her bitchiness if there was a payoff of seeing something happen to her. I'm sure it was better back then in the 80's, but the style, hair, clothes and dialogue seem very dated nowadays. I'd put this just behind Freddy's Dead as my most disliked sequel.

The book and Wes original script may be more of your liking

Mostly agree with this. Especially the way Nancy is so subdued and blah. Like she was on qualudes for the filming. I would add to these complaints this: The whole premise of the film is that they are gearing up to take the fight to Freddy. It is billed as a "Big Fight" event. Great idea. Too bad we never get what is promised. What we get is each character getting killed outright with no fight whatsoever. The acrobat girl got to show off her skill for 10 seconds (10 seconds longer than the rest of the "warriors") and even got one kick in on Freddy. That's it. One kick. Should have been "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Freddy Gets Kicked Once" because there was never a fight and no warriors to be seen. Just more gratuitous dream killing with even more cheese in the one-liners.

To me, only the first one was good.

Correction: A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Freddy Gets Kicked Once - and Zapped a Little With Fake Lightning By a Nerd.

reply

Did he? I don't remember that part. My memory has these kick ass warriors showing up and getting killed in elaborate site gags without even trying to fight (with noted exception). So the lil wizard kid took a shot, eh? OK. +.5

Beautiful & Bad stabbed him once I believe... but I completely agree... maybe that's why I liked 4 more. They got more adventurous with Alice and made her a badass by the end.

I like how they start a thread with some superfluous statement and never return to it.
