WHAT DID YOU REALLY LIKE ABOUT STAR TREK - THE NEXT GENERATION?

What was the one thing (or things) that you really liked about Star Trek - The Generation. For me it would be the Klingons. They went from the two dimensional bad guys of the original series to a thriving, vibrant culture with their special codes of honor and understandings.

I'm gonna agree with that. There was a time though I remember when people were getting tired of the Klingons. Lol. Ds9 did a really good job of fleshing them out further. I also really liked Q in the series.

I enjoyed seeing Picard at his self-righteous best, Riker with his hypocritical views towards his own personal life and that of Deanna Troi's, and Worf's excessive rage. I liked it when the show took itself way too seriously. It made for some fun TV viewing.

Looking back to when I watched the show as it was being aired I recall the SFX being very good for that era and the stories were always entertaining. Judging it by today's standards I find that it still holds up very well. The stories were well written, the characters were fleshed out to where you understood their motivations and flaws and actually cared about them. It could be both dark without being disturbing and positive without being too preachy. When some of the episodes had a more comical element they were always done without being too silly. There was great chemistry within the cast members. I believe they loved working with each other and loved the material and it showed with the output each week. You get the feeling that the entire production team treated the show as their baby.

It's impossible for me to remember the show without a great degree of nostalgia and that understandably makes me biased, but I know I can flip over to Amazon Prime, pick any episode, sit back and enjoy. So, I guess what I liked about it most is that it was one of those rare lighting-in-a-bottle shows that nearly had it all.

I always enjoyed the revolving story lines, esp those with Picard or Data. Even first season stuff that wasn't very smooth it still was fun. But one thing that still strikes me is simply how colorful the show is. The bridge is bright with some warmth to it. Engineering is brilliantly lit with the Core whatever it is. The halls and living quarters are immaculate. Makes the show fun and easy to watch.

the show had it's own culture but it successfully built off of the original star trek. People wanting to do a 'reboot' need to watch this as a 'class' how to do it right.

the original were not simply brought back. New cast. technologies and storylines were created. Existing ideas were tweaked appropriately.
