Charlie Sheen retroactively ruins Platoon

I used to really love this movie but since Sheen went crazy and his past depravities came to light I cannot watch it with the same enjoyment. Instead of believing him as the character of a young soldier in Vietnam, I just imagine Sheen buggering that poor kid from "Lucas" and ranting about Tiger Blood.

reply

I agree.
Same for Dillon after entourage, his role here went from brutally realistic to Drama reel.

reply

I feel that way about Mel Gibson and Lethal Weapon since it's come to light in recent years that he's a jerk in real life.

reply

Whatever.

reply

NO - Charlie Sheen rocks! Im a fan.

reply

Holding an actor up to their roles is an easy path to disappointment.

reply

💯

reply

I'm usually able to separate the actor from the character. The film still works for me.

reply

Exactly!! There are several actors whose performances I enjoy who are unsavory people in real life.

reply

I can handle actors who just have bad politics, because that's most of them. However, I can't enjoy the work of actors who are child rapists.

reply

I don't think it's unfair for people not to like it.

reply

Compared to what? I think he was better than Matthew Modine in Full Metal Jacket. Which was a similar movie. Both about the vietnam war.

EDIT****

As far as what he did, no evidence. All we have is Feldman's word on it and that's iffy at best.

reply

No way. Modine's Private Joker was the absolute King of '80s Vietnam movie dudes.

reply

He was so outshined by "Gunny" and "Private Pyle". Of course, Ermey's performance was the greatest ever in a war film, tough to beat that.

I might be slightly bias though, I've never cared for Modine's style of acting. It's so sappy.

reply

Whatever.
