When did it jump the shark?

It seems it happened as soon as the show entered the 90s. The first 3 seasons were the best, then the show dropped in quality in season 4 and especially in season 5. But the show became mindboggling awful in season 6: the whole Miles in the witness protection program storyline, Stan and Dorothy's rekindled romance, even more Rose adoption nonsense, Phil's funeral episode.

I DISAGREE...I THINK THE SHOW ENDED IN IT'S PRIME...THE ONLY SHARK JUMP BEING THE CAST MINUS ARTHUR RETURNING FOR THAT LONE SEASON OF THE GOLDEN PALACE.

reply

That’s exactly what I was thinking Kowalski, The Golden Palace was a misguided and unnecessary coda to a legendary series that only served to remind everyone what an integral part of the Golden Girls magic Arthur was.

reply

FOUR WONDERFUL,AMAZING WOMEN...ALL INTEGRAL TO THE SHOW'S SUCCESS...BUT BEA ARTHUR WAS THE KEYSTONE...SHE WAS ALSO SMART ENOUGH TO KNOW THAT AND WALK AWAY WHILE THE SHOW WAS STILL WORKING.

reply

When they tried to do Golden Palace.

reply

That's officially a different show, though.

Season 1, Episode 1.

reply

That's not what "jump the shark" means. Unless you're saying that midway the episode they suddenly changed tone or concept. Could you pinpoint that moment, please?

reply

Honestly, I don't think it did. I actually think it's one of those shows that stopped while it was ahead. Season 4 might be my favorite. Season 7 is a close second, though.

reply

First time viewer and almost done season 3. I already notice some plots where the characters are written differently just to match the story of the plot which is jarring. And some easy jokes that aren't that funny. Not really jump the shark but slow decline. I'll probably watch until the end of season 4.

reply

How are you enjoying it over all though? Nice to see people are still deciding to watch all this time later for the first time :)

reply

I can't pinpoint a Jumping-the-shark episode.
I've been watching it for the first time since it aired. Turns out I only watched it back then until season 3.
Some episodes have very cringy eighties type jokes that have not aged well at all.
Some jokes are only funny if you get the reference to what was going on at the time.
But some episodes are brilliantly funny and funnier than anything you watch today.
I will say that there are too many "remember what we did in that episode" episodes.
I'm on season 6.
