Has this movie been cancelled?

I just tried to find Revenge of the Nerds on my Roku device as well as through platforms like Vudu and Prime. The first Revenge of the Nerds has completely disappeared, even for rent, but the other inferior sequels are available. Has Revenge of the Nerds been canceled by the humorless prudes of the #MeToo brigade? They have already successfully made sure no one in an English-speaking country can see Polanski's "J'Accuse". Now they are getting rid of teen sex comedies from the 80s because they don't comport with our supposedly enlightened ideas on sexuality. DEATH TO THE #METOO MOVEMENT!

reply

Possible. With streaming, things come and go all the time. You have no control. It's currently unavailable to stream in the US on Amazon Prime. Not on Vudu at all. You can get the blu-ray for $7 on Amazon. I'd do that if I were you.

I have it on blu as part of a 3-pack with Porky's and Bachelor Party.

reply

Luckily, I already have that same 3-pack should any or all of these films ever disappear!

reply

Disney owns it now , so may edit it, buy the blu-ray while you can

reply

Yikes. Disney. I've seen what they did to Darryl Hannah's bare ass in Splash.

reply

Only Disney censors rated PG movies , the movie is harmless

reply

If you get AMC:

All times are in Eastern Time
Date
Channel
Wed, 4/13
10 PM
AMC
Thu, 4/14
4 PM
AMC

reply

I don't have cable anymore, but does AMC air that movie unedited? There's not much point in watching an 80s teen sex comedy without the sex or the comedy.

reply

Yeah, AMC is weird. It will censor movies, which are usually pre-edited from the movie studios for television broadcast. But in their original series, pretty much anything goes. I can find the movie for you to stream if you want. But it won't be on a streaming service. It'll just be on another social media platform similar to Facebook and YouTube.

reply

I appreciate it but I'm not jonesing that strongly to see it again and I have a physical copy, but the prospect of censorship is very much in the air. Kremlin-sponsored news service RT has been completely censored on Youtube and most other platforms in the West due to tensions with Russia. Censorship against Russian artists and musicians has already begun. The #MeToo "movement" already is serving as a censorial body "disappearing" (or attempting to disappear) artists they don't like like Roman Polanski. I have talked with folks on here about the controversial "rape" in ROTN. I sought it out tonight just to check its availability. Maybe there's no cause for alarm, but the fact it wasn't available to rent or purchase through any outlet was somewhat disturbing.

reply

AMC edits movies. You can't count on them to leave a movie alone.

reply

And who can watch a movie with repetitious ads every six minutes?

reply

We recently watched it (April 2022) on AMC. Some swear words were removed and possibly some hand gestures. But otherwise seemed to be complete.

reply

Its playing for the 2nd time today.
Such a classic

reply

odd its not for sale, but it is streaming on Hulu now

reply

I'm still holding onto my out of print copy of a double-feature flip disc paired with Nerds 2.
