Not quite as entertaining as it's cult movie status would imply

I grew up with C.H.U.D., and watching it now makes me realize that, like Prophecy, it had potential to be really fun instead of the mess it turned out to be. The story lags and drags, there's barely enough C.H.U.D. interaction, the deaths are offscreen and the climax is unsatisfying. I like the characters and some of the scares are pretty good, but I feel it would have been a much better film if it was scripted by John Sayles(Alligator, Piranha)

I agree, I feel the film is kind of dull, but the John Heard/Daniel Stern DVD commentary solves that problem for me:-). I just question the goal of the film: is it social commentary, horror, character studies?

IDK. The movie scared me so much as a kid I never watched it again. Between this and that X-Files episode, Jesus Fucking Christ with sewers, forget IT.

Sewers and tunnels are certainly very scary
Give this one a go again Tandy...it scaredme too the first time
Its a pretty good one;)
Nice to bump into you again

I agree, and I think it is because I only saw it in the 2010s rather than 1980s. It was one of those films I always saw on the video shelf as a kid and wondered about (great poster art!) but never got around to seeing it.

i watched it as a youngster and thought it was surprisingly boring. rewatching it i like that it is, or was, kind of a monster movie for mature people, with a story and characters and showing how the city workers involved dealt with this problem.

I have waited to watch this for many years and find it v entertaining, wet bandit guy and chud designs and kills was best part

John heard has a boring face but the rest of this film was interesting, but the bosch guy was bad actor too

Luckily this boring face and bad actor guys didn't matter too much for this great movie
