Is this movie a cult classic?

Seems like I’ve seen people talk about it as a favorite sometimes when people talk about Christmas.

reply

Oh yes! I watch it every year around Christmas along with Charlie Brown's Christmas. Two of my favorites.

reply

Yes, definitely a cult classic.

reply

MINUS THE WORD CULT....A CHRISTMAS STORY IS JUST A CLASSIC.

reply

Yes. It has a very low budget feel, and the parent actors ham up their roles almost like it's a Farce, but they are both seasoned performers so they fall into the roles very well.
I don't go out of my way to watch it every Christmas, but the first couple times were very fun. Sorta like The Princess Bride, it's a mix of corn pone and heart, and a Cult Classic. The Cult being there is a legion of people who love it, despite it's shortcomings.

I'd say it's cult-ish. Not enough people know about it for it to be a solid cult film. I remember gushing about it to my coworkers years ago and they all drew a complete blank. If I had mentioned something like Night of the Living Dead or Rocky Horror Picture Show, they would've at least heard of those movies.

I've never seen anyone not know what A Christmas Story is when it comes up in conversation. It's one of the best-known Christmas films of all time.

It even airs for 24 hours every Christmas on TNT and TBS.

reply

It's not a cult classic. It's a straight up classic.

Far too many people know about it and watch it every year for it to be a CULT classic.

reply

Yes, I watch it every year around Christmas, including A Charlie Brown Christmas. My favorites.

reply

I remember when it was released, and it seemed to ALWAYS be on some TV station several times during the season every year (so I would say NOT a "cult" classic), but maybe that's not true anymore...
