Bad Soundtrack.

The soundtrack to Tron is one of the worst in movie history.
It put me to sleep in 1982 and then again today as I showed my two sons (24 & 19)the movie for the first time.

If the makers of the film wanted electronic music, they should have hired Vangelis.

Vangelis onlyu knows one tune ... but it's real long.

And BORING.

Hey, Vangelis has been dissed by the record companies too you know.

Remember the orchestral version of his music for Blade Runner they put out as the "soundtrack" album for Blade Runner?

It took them until the release of the director's cut for Blade Runner for them to put out a proper soundtrack album of Vangelis' music from the film.

Walter/Wendy Carlos has always been one of my favorite composers, and the music for TRON has always been one of my favorite soundtrack albums.

Sticky Balls will provide hours of fun right out of the box.

I have to somewhat agree with you. I recently watched TRON for the first time in its entirety and on Blu Ray. I distinctly remember thinking that the only element that dates the movie is the soundtrack. It sounded like an amateur wrote it. And the Journey song to go with the soundtrack was just as bad.

I can see your point, but as others have pointed out, I think the music suited the film well as it was similar to computer games at the time.

But I do feel like others also that it was also a bit of a mess in some places if listened to on its own as a soundtrack. Has some great moments and themes, however.

Vangelis, I like your idea after having watched Blade Runner recently, but I wonder if he could have provided for the fast-paced pursuit-style action scenes like those seen in Tron.

The soundtrack was awesome and aptly complimented the rigged digital landscape for 1982. Some other replies mention Vangelis and his work in Blade Runner but that's a completely different landscape so they're comparing apples to garlic bulbs

The score is INCREDIBLE. It adds such a fantastically bizarre, demented, campy and borderline experimental character to the film. TRON is above all else an aesthetic experiment, and the score really contributes to its weird, exploratory, creative edge. Going fully epic and atmospheric a la Blade Runner wouldn't have suited the material.

I loved the soundtrack. I even had Information Ocean as my ringtone for years until recently.
Crisp memory of my dad taking me to see it. Huge fan of the movie and the soundtrack.
