Worst original score my ass...

This is a really well done score and beautifully done. Keep in mind Yentl, and John Williams were also nominated for worst original score this year.

I have the CD soundtrack for this and love the music. Hard to think that even the score was hated back then. Carpenter just couldn't get a break with The Thing. 😞

"You are alone, child. There is only darkness for you, and only death for your people."

The score's a masterpiece. Whoever nominated it for a Razzie was a PC-driven imbecile. This soundtrack and Goldsmith's Alien soundtrack are the two most creepiest and unsettling scores I've ever heard IMHO.

It's a phenomenal score. Morricone perfectly captures the sense of dread and gloom with his music.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

reply

It was only nominated because Morricone also scored Butterfly that same year which was presumably a terrible film so his The Thing score got lumped into the same category unfortunately.

reply

The Razzies are full of crap anyway. Like I said before on another board they gave Rambo 2 Worst Picture, Worst Screenplay, Worst Actor, and worst song. Frankly if that was the worst movie that year to them then that was a really good year for movies. Then again I guess action movies were considered bad cinema by people back then.

reply

Back in the 80's, the Razzies were literally (and I mean literally) a bunch of frat dudes sitting around at a house discussing their least favorite films of the year. In 1980, the first year of the Razzies, the entire Razzies council only had 10 people! Compared to the Academy, which had around 1,100 that year. This is why The Shining got a nomination for "worst director": one or two people out of ten disliked it, therefore it recieved a nomination.

reply

Wow! I admit I could've researched them but I didn't. Honestly Rambo 2 just isn't bad to me. Not the best movie ever by any means but it is entertaining.

reply

What's Rambo 2? 🤔

reply

Don't be a smart ass!

reply

The Razzies sometimes likes to nominate high profile people to get attention, I think.

reply

This. And also high profile projects. They don't really nominate absolutely worst movies, because almost no one has even heard of them. They like to nominate high profile failures.

reply

Agree it’s an amazing score. Really ads to the atmosphere of the movie.

reply

I found the score to stand out in a low-key, brooding sort of way. Quietly disturbing.

It’s an amazing score
