Sarah Holcomb

Made four films in her whole career and two of them are among the greatest comedies ever made.

Yeah, but man was her accent ever completely lame in this one.

Her star shone too bright and too soon. She crashed and burned.

In between the two films she had small parts in two otherwise unremarkable films, Happy Birthday Gemini and Walk Proud. But Caddyshack would be her last film. After shooting wrapped she literally vanished and would never appear in another film again.

So what happened?

The two hit films which bookended her short but promising career bore similarities to each other, aside from the connection to SNL. Both productions were awash in drugs, booze, sexual misconduct, nightly parties, and just general un-professionalism. And I’m talking about OFF set. Sarah was only 18 at the time of filming Animal House and she was quickly swept into the orgy of insanity that dominated the shooting. By the time Animal House wrapped Sarah had developed a drug and alcohol addiction which would only deepen in the coming years. As Chris Miller, who co-wrote the screenplay of the 1978 comedy classic and penned the new book "The Real Animal House," eloquently relates: "She was young, younger than the rest of us. We were a fast crowd. Drugs were everywhere. She fell into what, for lack of a better term, you would have to call bad company. And got fucked up on drugs. Coke, primarily, if memory serves," Miller says. "She wound up in some home for fucked-up young girls . . . wound up sort-of erased from life. I don't know what became of her. Sad story." She only made three more films before vanishing into obscurity after Caddyshack."

Virtually the same story can be told about the Caddyshack production. In fact Ted Knight was so disgusted by the nightly drug parties that he nearly quit the film. During the course of the shoot Sarah was exhibiting signs of mental instability. By the time shooting wrapped she had developed bizarre behavioral traits which would effectively render her as unemployable.

That's sad.

Very sad.

Yeah her accent was pretty bad, but it wasn't enough to ruin the movie.
