So Drax tries to kill Bond 10 times!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong:

1. Chan tries to off Bond on the centrifuge machine
2. Drax tries to have Bond shot whilst hunting
3. Drax arranges for Chan to intercept Bond with a sword in the Venice glassworks
4. Again in Venice, Bond is attacked on his gondola by a knife thrower and then chased along the rivers
5. Drax hires Jaws to kill Bond and Dr Goodhead in the cable car
6. Bond and Dr Goodhead are kidnapped by a fake ambulance
7. Jaws attempts to shoot bond whilst chasing him in a speedboat
8. Bond enters Drax's lair and is tipped into a pond where a giant python awaits
9. Drax puts Bond and Dr Goodhead in the exhaust pit of one of the Moonraker rockets pre-launch
10. Draw orders Jaws to force Bond out of the airlock on the space station.

Did I miss anything? Surely this has to be a record for a James Bond movie!!

Yeah you haven't missed anything. It's Bond villain stupidity. Why can't they just shoot him there and then?!

Are you Scott Evil sir?

reply

I've got a whole bag of Shhhh!

Live and Let Die is another one where the villains attempt to kill Bond multiple times and fail despite the fact that they had plenty of opportunities to shoot him in the head.

It's a pretty amazing list that you don't realize while watching. I wonder if it's a record for the series?

reply

Yeah seriously this was ridiculous even for a Bond film. “Mr Bond you defy my attempts to plan an amusing death for you”- well you have guns you have Bond prisoner just shoot him, don’t even worry about leaving him under the rocket

The first time, Drax didn't even have a reason for wanting Bond dead. Bond was sent as an emissary and investigator, and Drax fully expected this. Bond hadn't even begun yet when Drax said, "make sure some harm comes to him." Why? That's the best possible way of signalling, "he was on to something, here", and draw attention to yourself.

And as for #4, Chan doesn't attack Bond with a sword. He attacks him with a bamboo training sword, a shinai. Shinai are designed specifically to cause as little damage as possible. They can give you a nasty bruise, but unless they hit your fingers, a whack with a shinai has practically zero chance of breaking bones no matter how hard you hit with them. A lot of protective equipment is used in Kendo, but shinai are also used in longsword practice, and I have sparred numerous times using only mask and gloves for protection. It is utterly unsuited for assassination purposes.

This is one of my favorite Bond movies. It's so over-the-top corny. Now, it's even cornier after reading this post. I never paid attention to just how many times Drax couldn't do the job.
