I wouldn’t. I still like walking on the beach, being in a beach town, hearing waves. I think Amity would have been economically ok with some restrictions.

The only thing more miserable than having to lay around a beach for a week would be to have to swim in the ocean.
shareIt depends. If I had somewhere else to go and could get my money back on short notice I might. If not I would go, and just sit on the beach drinking beer and watching the other people go earn darwin awards.
Besides there were several dozen people standing around when Hooper was having his argument with the fishermen about the bite radius of the shark they caught, so there would be a good chance that people around town would be talking about how the marine biologist had been claiming this was not the shark.
I would have worn a mask. That protects you from everything.

California has lots of beaches, and also great white sharks. Occasionally one attacks a surfer, usually by mistake, thinking he or she is a seal. It doesn't stop anyone from going to the beach.
Now if a great white learned to like eating people, it would certainly keep people out of the water, but not away from the beach or the town. Maybe if there was a big surfing tournament scheduled, it would mess with that and cost the town some money.
