No. Jaws is basically a remake of "Moby Dick". Quint had to die. He was a modern version of Ahab

I can see why the audience would cheer for him. But it would have been a cliché ending. What happened to him was a shock. He was the most badass of the three!

The ending was great. Quint had to die like he lived, on the water, fighting a big fish. It beats him dying of lung cancer in a nursing home 12 years later.

I like the movie the way it is. However, it would be interesting if Brody and Hooper had died and only Quint survived. If the events on the ORCA played out the same, except for who lived and died, it would’ve been a very hollow victory for Quint. His madness and vendetta toward sharks would’ve cost two innocent men their lives. How he managed that guilt in his head is interesting.

reply

I would not change a thing in the movie. Quint died the way hundreds of his shipmates died in WWII. It was his destiny.

reply

You are 100% correct.

reply

He’ll never put on a life jacket again.

reply

Nope. And, if there is anyone on here hasn't noticed it yet, "Jaws" is basically a retelling of "Moby Dick". Quint is Ahab and the shark is Moby Dick.
