SNL season premiere ratings bomb

Evidently, it was the least viewed episode in the shows history. Time to put a fork in this shit show, because it's done.

Eh I doubt it will go anywhere for a few years. My guess is Lorne Michaels will be hanging it up after the 50th season along with a lot of the more veteran cast members and then the network will decide on the show's fate. I like a lot of the current performers but imo the show plays it too safe now. I'm also not even sure what ratings mean anymore considering the changes in the way people watch television shows now (I watch the show on Hulu the day after every week).

It's a live show. I think ratings matter in this instance.

Regardless of ratings, because of its history SNL is still considered an institution and there is zero chance it'll face cancellation prior to its 50th year.

I'm sure your right, and I'll be surprised if thats the last season even then. They'll milk the cow as long as they can.

Makes me wonder why they chose Owen Wilson to open season 47 as guest host and then have Kim Kardashian guest host the next week. She's bound to get better ratings.

Scheduling issues maybe?

It needs fresh blood. An entire house cleaning. I'm talking cast and writing staff.

They used to do this every few years when the slumps hit. I remember when Hartman and Carvey came on - I think the only holdover was Lovitz. A few years later they brought in Ferrell and Ohteri and got rid of Sandler, Farley, Rock, etc. It was originally built to showcase new, fresh talent, but that's long gone.

For some reason, they are keeping these veterans around. How long has Kate, Cecily, Bryant, Jost, and the rest been on? Seven years? Longer? Bring in a bunch of fresh faces and a breakout might happen. Can't get much worse ratings than they are having now.

Thank the Lord! When you have a random prostitute as your host, you have lost.

reply

I don't have a problem with Owen Wilson.
