Never needed any sequels or prequels.

This to me is a standalone film. All the sequels and prequels just feel like they are rehashing this movie over and over with lesser and lesser quality. This movie is a perfect example of sometimes less is more. They should stop milking this classic because none will ever hold a candle to this horror classic. Anyone agree?

I ENJOY A LOT OF THE SEQUELS...BUT YES....I AGREE...WITH ONE MAJOR EXCEPTION...TCM PART II IS MY FAVORITE....I JUST LOVE THE TONE AND CHARACTERS.

Was that the one where she works in a radio station?

DJ STRETCH...DENNIS HOPPER ON A CHAINSAW FUELED VENGEANCE QUEST...CHILI FULL OF HUMANS...CHOP-TOP SCRATCHING HIS STEEL PLATE WITH A COAT HANGER.

ABSOLUTELY.

There’s a jump scare in that one that gets me every single time, lol… great film!

reply

Yes, I agree. As much fun as the second one is, even it's not needed.

reply

Agreed and that is what MOST sequels and prequels feel like anyway -- rehashing the same thing ad nauseum.

reply

Unfortunately, that's what the 80's were. Sequels to everything.

reply

A couple have been watchable, without being brilliant. A lot were just guff.

What I like about this one is they don't really tell you anything about the family. You don't even know their names. Sometimes the unknown is scarier and more sinister.

reply

Yep and the mystery behind the characters is what keeps me interested. I’ve wondered many times how this family operates on a daily basis and just how many people they killed but I don’t want a prequel to show me these things .

I really do not need another scene where leatherface is stitching his skin mask
Together either 😳😳

reply

Agreed in full.

And, I might add, the same could be said about 95% of the other sequels/prequels out there.

reply

Agree. I’ve thought about what would have been the best way to continue from the first movie and I’ve never come up with a good story. Trying to bring Leatherface and his father into a sequel is difficult. The character of leatherface is just meant for 1 movie or else you just start doing the same thing over and over. You can only have him chase people with a chainsaw and cut them up so many times .. that leaves you with his father who is pretty one note. You can add in
More family members which TCM 3 did and it was somewhat successful but ultimately - they ran with the same basic formula as the other sequels. You can make a prequel and show the origin of the various family members but this is never as interesting as one might think. I honestly don’t want Leatherfaces childhood spilled out for me

reply

For better or worse, I’m such a big fan of the original that I’ve never felt a need to watch any of the other ones. As far as I’m concerned, leatherface is still out there and Sally was never the same after her experience.

I’m sure some of the other films in the installments are great, and maybe I’ll check them out someday, but this is good for now.

I'm a huge fan of the Platinum Dunes efforts from 2003 and 2006 though I know you prefer horror from the 60s-90s so they probably wouldn't be your cup of tea however Tobe Hooper's sequel from 1986 is batshit insane, you need to check it out at some point.

Added to my watchlist. 👍
