The way they transported the blind kiddies to Walnut Grove was barbaric

Remember Blind Journey? They just have a wagon or two, and then tie everyone to a rope and drag them along behind the wagon.

reply

Haha, you're right! How far did they have to walk?

reply

Winoka was a fictional city in the Dakota Territory. Even if it was located in the easternmost park of Dakota (closer to Walnut Grove), it would have been at least 100 miles away.

reply

They couldn't afford another wagon. How were they supposed to transport them?

reply

Good point. But did they have to make the horses gallop and keelhaul the blind kids the whole way?

reply

I remember they treated the poor blind kids like cattle.

reply

well people w disabilities did not have legal rights back then--were not considered 'people' even if they were white men.

Even in 1970s when series was airing, the idea of giving people with disabilities an appropriate and full education--or any legal rights was considered 'new'
