Paramount reportedly wanted to bring a Mission: Impossible series to Paramount+, but film star Tom Cruise blocked the project from happening.
With this dude, it's all about him. His M:I movies are horrible and disrespect the franchise. The movies are more about him rather than a team of operatives.
shareYeah he does sound like he likes to be the centre of it. I don't mind the movies. The first one is actually a decent espionage thriller if you can ignore the fact Jim Phelps is the villain.
However the films do ignore the key element of the series, team work. I've actually been surprised for a while that they've never brought it back as a modern day version and think it could work.
The article does say the next two films are apparently Tom's last so maybe they can make the series after that. I presume he's probably threatening to quit if they release it which won't really be much of a threat if he has already quit.
It does show the issue of relying on stars too much. Should he have ever been allowed to have this much control?

CRUISE BLOCKING THE SERIES MAKES A TON OF SENSE...DON'T NEED ANYTHING DILLUTING THE BRAND BEFORE HE FINISHES WHAT I BELEVE WILL BE THE END OF THE TOM CRUISE MISSION IMPOSSIBLE FRANCHISE AS WELL AS THE TOM CRUISE ACTION GUY ERA.
From what I've heard, if true, Cruise owns some sort of rights to this franchise. No one is allowed to make a TV series or any other movie unless he says so. So he's made sure it's all about him.
shareTom Cruise only works with his own production company. So yes, he does own the rights. That's why he waited so many years to do the Top Gun sequel. His company (meaning him) bought the rights, so he controls the picture.

I'm not sure how it works though as surely the original creator or their estate would have some rights unless they sold them all
MI, alongside all the rest of the 20-sequel/remake franchises all say the same thing - Hollywood is on its dying bed.

In his mind it is all about him. One of the first things he tried to do when he took the franchise was to try and kill off the original team. The former series stars were supposed to be the team that was wiped out in the first film. Thankfully every one of them refused to participate.
