Does anyone here have any thoughts on Burgess Meredith's voice?

Entertainment has always been filled with absolute studs when it comes to reliable second banana characters that vastly improve everything they're in.
Burgess Meredith fits that description to a T. He was as solid and reliable as any character actor in TVs or films. I like his over the top take on Penguin. I mean, this is a silly campy show and Meredith plays this straight at the same time being just campy enough to fit in the show. Perfectly done.

I read in a magazine article recently that he loved doing the show. Whenever he was coming to town he'd let them know in advance, to say he was available if they wanted him. He was hugely popular with both cast and crew. share

That actually makes me happy to read that. There are a lot off very talented actors who are absolute dicks in real life. I've always enjoyed Merideth's performances over the years. Just very professional in his craft that makes everything he's in better.

He based it on what he thought his voice sounded like back when he smoked. He had quit years earlier. Apparently it made him sound raspy and he imitated that to do Penguin.
