How can you NOT rate this as a 10?

Did you not rate this as 10? Why?

"The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones."

reply

I didn't rate it 10 because it has many flaws, such as:

1. Potter is a one-dimensional caricature. He's not the least bit believable as a real human being.

2. The film alleges mark twain is in Heaven even though mark twain hated God and Jesus Christ.

3. Mary is a tramp.

4. The film wastes a lot of screen-time on Mary's tramp sideplot, and then randomly drops it in the middle of the film, as if it never happened. Thus the film is left with a major storytelling incongruency/faux pas/error.

5. Mary being a lonely spinster in the alternate world makes no sense whatsoever, thus the film is left with a second major storytelling incongruency/faux pas/error.

6. The angels belittle Clarence, which is not something angels would do.

7. The film implies that God endorses killing people with war planes, which is not something that God would do.

8. George would still go to jail for the stolen money even if he replaced it with donations from the community, but the film implies otherwise.

9. The film glorifies vandalizing property, which is an immoral & dangerous message.

10. The guy who says "hee-haw" all the time is inherently annoying, easily one of the most obnoxious and useless characters ever put on film.

reply

Come up with your own story line that is better. Or shut up.

reply

Hey Navaros, you are horrible.

reply

I also rated it for more or less the same reasons you did, especially this part:

Mary being a lonely spinster in the alternate world makes no sense whatsoever, thus the film is left with a second major storytelling incongruency/faux pas/error.

Exactly. She was clearly a well-adjusted, beautiful young woman who had the attraction of all the eligible bachelors, so why on earth would she have become a spinster because George wasn't born? Okay, I can see her becoming a bitter divorcee or a woman in such an unhappy marriage that she becomes an alcoholic or something. But the spinster thing was complete and total bull 💩.

Actually, that entire "never been born" sequence was b.s. Why on earth would Bedford Falls have turned into such a horrible red light district under Mr. Potter's influence? He was a mean, old bastard, for sure, but how did that translate to, "Okay, and on top of that, I want to transform this small town into a sleazy casino/bordello strip?"

George would still go to jail for the stolen money even if he replaced it with donations from the community, but the film implies otherwise.

Exactly.

As far as the law is concerned, George took money that didn't belong to him, so it doesn't make a damned bit of difference if people replaced the money. If you swiped an iPod from an Apple store (or were suspected of doing so), would Apple forgive the theft because your friends and family raised enough money to pay for the cost of the lost iPod? Of course not.

Potter is not the least believable human being? is this like the biggest joke on the Internet ever made?

reply

George would still go to jail for the stolen money even if he replaced it with donations from the community, but the film implies otherwise.

I think the District Attorney is the one who decides whether to charge Bailey with a crime, and he's so moved by the little community's outpouring of support that he decides to rip up the warrant, having decided to drop the charges. Like the cop ripping up the ticket at the end of Die Hard 2. What the hell, it's Christmas!

reply

No, in no place in this country would George "go to jail" for the stolen money. There is ample evidence that the money was lost, and not embezzled. And George wasn't even the one who lost it, as would quickly come out.

But there is little doubt the Board would insist that his uncle be permanently retired.

And by the way, Nav's list is complete and utter hogwash. I pity people like that.

6. The angels belittle Clarence, which is not something angels would do.

So you know what angels would do, right? Can you please tell me where I can find a bunch of angels, I just would like to drill them on my own if you don't mind...

reply

i'm an angel my friend.

1. You’ve obviously never worked in a corporate job, or if you have, fell into an incredibly privileged role with a rare mentor.

I would sure hate to see what YOU think is an acceptable movie, then.

"Because it's an over sentimental and overrated movie."

"I don`t know were(sic) i wrote that this movie is not acceptable.

Please show me were(sic) i wrote that this movie is not acceptable."

"...over sentimental and overrated..." does seem, within the context of this message-board threadline topic question, to directly or indirectly imply at least some level of subjective unacceptability of this movie on your part.

That's where you wrote it.

God did not create man in his own image; man created god in his own image.

Jeg taler ikke dansk.

reply

I gave it a full 10.

reply

I hate when people overanalyze older movies like IAWL, and others of its ilk. What makes you want to pick this movie apart? To show us who LOVE this movie how intellectually superior you are? Jeez, it's just a MOVIE. Chill out dude, good grief!!!

reply

I seriously cannot believe this is a 94 on rotten tomatoes, who are these people that seriously think this is not a good movie

reply

Bad editing. I only rate a movie a '10' if I'd want to watch it again and again and again. I have no desire to ever watch this again.

reply

Indeed. Only nationalist would rate this a 10.

reply

Shut up, you TITS.

reply

..and the emotionally impaired.

reply

Because I have taste, and I see this as being sentimental crap.

reply

You say "sentimental" like it's a bad thing.
