Was it the Wicked Witch of the West who possessed the trees to come alive?

I didn't realize that until this afternoon.

I don't think so. The scarecrow was also "alive", and the witch had nothing to do with him. Just part of the weirdness of the dream world that was Oz.

I agree, I think they were just trees, that like so many things in Oz,, were sentient and vocal.

I always thought the trees are supposed to be Uncle Henry’s Oz counterpart like how the other characters in the real world have a related character in Oz.
