Just saw it...and noticed something...

I haven't seen it in ages. And upon watching it just now, I realize the Kong is a monster in the movie. Sure he doesn't really harm her, but she never connected with him as the remakes make her... To her, he was just a monster.

I wonder if it was an accident that we, the audience, ended up rooting for him and not the humans?

Truth be told, the reason for his success nearly a hundred years later still, is that we want him to win... Does anyone know if the original storytellers wanted to portray a mundane monster or the antihero he has become?

Fay Wray’s character Anne was as dull as dishwater. She had no personality, nothing to say, no thoughts. She just screamed a lot. They could have stuck a blond mannequin out for Kong and he wouldn’t have known the difference.

I think they wanted him less sympathetic in the original. He kills the natives on the island that worship him! That makes him kind of a jerk!

Kong was only an antihero in King Kong Escapes, Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs Kong. In all the other versions, Kong is a mundane monster

The 2005 gets a lot of shit but it has the better development between the girl and Kong of all the KK movies.

Check out the 1975 version of Kong where he gives Jessica Lange a bath in the waterfall.
