The hypocrisy of JK Rowling's "identity" politics

Without wanting to get bogged down in this whole hornets nest, it's pretty funny that JK Rowling takes issue with people wishing to identify themselves as female.

This is the same JK Rowling - an Englishwoman living in Scotland - who had absolutely no issue with people biologically born in Scotland identifying themselves as British and not Scottish!

Complete hypocrisy...

This is weird post. You dont understand what Great Britain is. Its a union of four countries. Same way USSR was a union of some 15 countries. And people who lived there were called "soviets" as in meaning - people of USSR. While still having their nationality written in their passport.

Those countries in USSR were ruled by one government set in capital. While being somehow let have their identity and local rulers were being appointed by capital government. But people living in there were still having their identity, they knew they were armenians, russians, estonians. Same with Great Britain. They are all British. While being at the same time scotish, irish, english, welsh.

People who live in Scotland are scottish and british at the same time. When welsh person will come to live in Scotland they will be "welsh living in Scotland" and not scotish. But all of them are british.

Its beyond me why on earth you would compare this to when men are throwing themselves in women spaces.

I am perfectly aware of what Great Britain is - both in a geopolitical sense and a land mass. I have elaborated on how this fits in with regards to identify in many places across this board so there wouldn't be really much point in repeating that here....

I have however also given examples of where people do not identify with a land mass as such (e.g. North America, Ireland, etc) and that the identity people associate with being British - as a result of an historical pact - and having a British Prime Minister, Royal Family, etc is as a result of that. JK Rowling was in favour of people being able to continue making that identify as per her position in the Scottish Independence referendum.

(Which was very obviously a vote regarding the political union and not whether some Scots sought to physically relocate the chunk of Scottish land away from the British Isles themselves which some numpty further up in this thread seemed to believe was a possible belief 😂)

So you understand what Great Britain is yet you ask those weird questions and compare it to when men want to invade womens spaces?

There is no such things as "identify themselves as female". There are men and there are women. Thats it, this is how universe roles. I feel sorry for those individuals who feel they were born in wrong body. I also feel sorry for people who have cancer. I also feel sorry for people who died at road incident. But that doesnt mean that man can become woman by wishing. He is man, he was born that way. He has to go to therapy, take medication and found a way to accept himself.

You can call him woman all you want but he will still be man. And he knows it. That why so many of them are ending things. Person who has deadly cancer can identify themselves as Healthy, we can even all call them Healthy. But that will not change the fact that they are sick and will die.

98 years old person can identify as 25 years old young person. And we can all pretend they are and tell them. But when they will try to stand up and go running and do what young people do - they will no be able to do so. Because they are fragile old people, they physically cant no matter how they identify themselves. Why is it so hard to understand?

P.S. North America is a continent. Its not a Union. Why would people identify themselves that? Ireland declared independence and is not in Great Britain. So they dont cal themselves British. USSR collapsed and all those countries became independent. None of them identify as Soviets anymore. If Scotland will leave Great Britain one day then they will become just Scottish. Until they are not - they are British and Scottish at the same time.

Exactly. They wouldn't. And in the same way people in Scotland wouldn't identify themselves as British without the political union.

Otherwise, as I've said previously, I don't really want to get bogged down in the whole hornets nest of the transgender debate. That wasn't my point.

So is this dude a known troll or know for his ignorance?

LOL - Says a guy digging up a thread from six months ago simply in order to be disparaging and add literally nothing to the discussion.

The actual "troll" seems pretty obvious here...

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland includes Scotland. Scottish people are British. Read a book or something.

And she's completely correct about people pretending to be the opposite gender.

Eh, read this thread or something...

I'm perfectly aware of the composition of the UK, thanks!

Good point OP. And still relevant today with her continued attacks on the LGBTQ+ community!
