I don't think that was ever his job. He's like Ed McMahon who wasn't funny either but just played Johnny Carson's punching bag

Have you ever seen any episodes from his TV show? A few are online, admittedly in mostly poor quality, and I found them quite funny.

My favourite (and the one that motivated me to watch the show, because I'm a fan of the guest star actress in it), involves him hooking up with a stunningly beautiful woman who turns out to be an anti-Semite. He has to somehow mitigate his feelings of guilt for dating a virulent bigot with his understandable lust for such a hottie.

I didn't like him on Conan or in any of his movies, so I have no desire to watch his show. He was okay on Monk, although I really can't stand that voice of his.
