His Death Was a 20 Second Footnote on the BBC News

Imagine how much coverage it would have gotten had he *not* been a child sex offender/been discovered to be one. It possibly would have been the lead, or second lead, story, and there'd be gushing tributes about a 'much loved' BBC institution. Now he's treated like a dirty secret no-one wants to talk about.

I guess this is what Gary Glitter has to look forward to.

Eh? Can you re-edit/rephrase your post, please?

With all due respect, is English a second language to you?

reply

????

AckbarsRevenge, your English is normally fine and understandable. Are you trying some dumb AI to try and troll the OP?

What WAS the lead story tonight? The Cardiff riots? I happen to live in Cardiff, in fact I was born there, and I'm wondering why the riots happened, although I'm not too surprised as the district of Ely is where they happened, and that part has always been rough. However, I know people who live there, so I'm concerned for their safety.

reply

I believe it was. I must admit, I didn't watch the news. I could hear it through my neighbour's walls, and the Rolf Harris story was about halfway through the BBC 10 o'clock news programme. Clive Myrie talked about it for about 15 or so seconds.

I think Suella Braverman's speeding fine, and a new line of enquiry into Madeleine McCann's disappearance, were also among the main stories.

I could hear it through my neighbour's walls...

This sounds like a story in itself...

reply

We have thin walls.

I know your pain. We used to have the same issue.

It would've been the death of a bone fide British Icon. An absolute national treasure..

But as it is its more like the end of Day of the Jackal

Are the Brits to blame, or the Aussies?

I mean, I know he was probably a bigger star in the UK, but still... 🤷‍♂️

Gary Glitter should've gotten the NOOSE. Heck, in THIS, he DID:

You can’t help but contrast his demise with the mass world wide tributes to the recently departed Barry Humphries.

reply

Indeed. Thank goodness Humphries was a decent chap.

Weirdly enough, I checked out "An Audience With Dame Edna" show on YouTube that I vaguely recall from the 80s. It screened late on Christmas Day 1988. Alas, it was marred by the brief presence of a certain other Australian entertainer as one of the audience guests...
