In one of his books, he wrote himself into the story to rescue the heroes. I look forward to his family selling off the rights to his stories that he refused to sell to Hollywood after they botched a few of his works.

I've only read a few of his books but did read that bit. As I remember he sailed up a river in N. Korea and rescued Pitt, possibly a girl as well. Always struck me as both absurd and clever. Write your hero in to a hopeless situation then break all the rules and save him yourself.

I recommend sampling some episodes from 'The Sea Hunters' TV series that ran from 2002 to 2005. Some good mystery yarns among those. He wrote and hosted and narrated that series. Rest In Peace.
