would he have made a good indy?

indiana jones if ford wasn’t cast?

reply

Almost. He’s a bit too pretty. Doesn’t quite have the gravitas required. Kind of a poor man’s George Hamilton. Now he would’ve made the greatest Indy.

reply

Bingo, I've always seen Dirk Benedict as a poor man’s George Hamilton.

reply

No, he was way too lean to be a convincing adventurer. He had been a good replacement for anything Bruce Boxleitner or Bill Pullman did, but not Indiana Jones. He had been imo as miscast as Steve Martin in the role.

For the people considered for the role of Indy, I would only see Jack Nicholson (drastically different character so) and of course Tom Selleck as good what-ifs.

reply

I think yes, he would have. I think we naturally think he wouldn't have been as good as Harrison Ford, but that's because it's almost impossible of thinking of Indy being anyone but Harrison Ford.

reply

I think he lacked a certain toughness.
