Looks like the budget was $73 million and the global gross was around $30 million. I'm sure there have been bigger flops in movie history, but yes, this has to be up there (look like -58% return on investment if my math is correct). I didn't see this film, but I recall when it came out. At the time, John Travolta was one of Hollywood's leading stars, so it was especially odd that he would star in a film like this. I recall that at the time, the film was pretty much panned in the media. I think that's a pretty good assessment, but I would add that she was bestowed with this popularity to speak on a topic that has the potential to completely upend the lives of billions of people, yet she was effectively protected from criticism because of her age. Her attempts to shame countries into making massive changes to their economies that would have required massive tax increases, etc. - all because she was offended ("how dare you!") - came across as mind-numbing. It was as if rational discourse was supposed to be thrown out the window because an adolescent girl who can't possibly know how economies operate was upset about an issue. I can't speak about the hatred, but the general dislike of her was because she was a mere child who mysteriously gained the authority to speak on an international audience and promote a leftwing cause that had the potential to disrupt the lives of billions of people. In other words, she had no expertise on a matter but was able to command massive amounts of media attention to push one side's propaganda. In addition, because she was a child, she was effectively given immunity from criticism. Because of this - no expertise + no rational argument + massive media attention + leftwing causes + immunity from criticism - she is disliked by many. I think yes, he would have. I think we naturally think he wouldn't have been as good as Harrison Ford, but that's because it's almost impossible of thinking of Indy being anyone but Harrison Ford. I don't really know who this actress is, but it sounds like your far-left politics have infected your view of reality. Everyone needs to take you with a heavy grain of salt. The article you showed indicated that 80% of the abuse was done toward boys. I think it's fair to raise this issue of homosexual behavior and its relation to the acting out of sexual perversion. This is an uncomfortable reality that people on the left often want to ignore, and it's completely ignored by those who simply want to engage in Anti-Catholic attacks. In any case, I see that you raised the point about sexual abuse in the Catholic Church since the 1950s. What is the rate of sexual abuse in the rest of the world over that same timeframe? How about in public schools? How about by atheists? You see, you're blaming Jim Caviezel for not making a movie on a specific topic of your choosing comes across as an excuse to smear him. And you know, there have already been other movies about sexual abuse within the Church. Why can't you just watch those films? The article stated that 2/3 of those were clergy, and that 80% of the victims were boys, which means these were homosexual acts. Again, do you really think that Jim Caviezel doesn't condemn all of this? Why, then, try to smear him? I realize that you probably think your comment is witty, but do you honestly think that Jim Caviezel doesn't condemn all of that? And where do you get that figure of 400,000 from? IMDB says July 1985 filming date. Release date was not until April 1986. I can see how a person could love or hate the exoticism of the song. View all replies >
